LCPL Upgrades to TLC’s CARL•SOLUTION ILS

Loudoun County Public Library (LCPL) in Virginia implemented The Library Corporation’s CARL•Solution integrated library system, debuting TLC’s modern, intuitive online catalog and open and powerful staff interfaces on March 29.

Key for LCPL are TLC’s online public access catalogs, LS2 PAC and LS2 Kids, that ensure patron-driven services are at the forefront for users of all ages. Commenting on the full featured, children’s catalog, Mark Miller, Chair of the LCPL Library Board of Trustees said, “This software is a game changer for us. The touch-screen interface of the LS2 Kids catalog, which allows children to browse our collection easily, is having a huge impact.”

These OPAC offerings fit the bill for LCPL with advanced searching, personalization, discovery and an enhanced mobile website experience all available within the core CARL product. Library Director Chang Liu expanded, “Our patrons can now explore the library’s millions of resources with the same ease as Netflix, Amazon and Google. We are thrilled the CARL product line has given our patrons the functionality they deserve. In addition, our librarians are using tablets to assist patrons directly in the stacks.”

As well as the public facing catalogs, CARL•Connect, TLC’s mobile and web-based clients, provide staff with greater efficiencies and allow more opportunities for co-browsing and outreach at the customer’s point of need. On day one staff were excited to make use of these web based services for registering new customers. Built upon the strengths of the sophisticated and mature CARL•Solution interface, CARL•Connect will continue to grow and adapt to support LCPL’s efforts to evolve with their community members, wherever they may be.
