Updates to CARLConnect Discovery shows TLC’s commitment to user experience

The Library Corporation is pleased to announce the release of CARLConnect Discovery version 3.4. CARLConnect Discovery is a native discovery service that is distinguished by a focus on user experience. This round of development concentrated on solutions that improve the usefulness of the library catalog for both patrons and staff. To that end, v3.4 brings the highly anticipated FRBRized discovery experience to CARL libraries, and provides new visibility to library collections with updates to the CARLConnect Discovery Search Engine Optimization (SEO) features.

For years, libraries have discussed the need to offer their users a smarter search experience that ensures they can easily find, locate, identify and select the materials that they are searching for within a library catalog. With the introduction of the FRBRized catalog view in v3.4 of CARLConnect Discovery, users will have a clear understanding of what editions and formats are owned by their library and can navigate to these titles with ease. Connecting ‘same/like’ intellectual content, and then providing a sophisticated and intuitive search and display interface for that content, exceeds expectations of the public ‘discovery’ layer. A clear view of all formats for a title in the search results not only improves the user experience, but also increases the exposure of a library’s vast and well rounded collection.

Another exciting feature available with v3.4 is SEO. This development extends a library’s reach within their community by exposing their catalog data to the web. Integrated with the powerful Google Search Console, CARLConnect Discovery monitors the findability of library data, and indexes this data for discovery with a simple Google search. Moreover, this update further enhances the search experience for mobile users by adding an additional layer of mobile-first indexing. SEO allows libraries to meet users where they are—right in the Google search box—and extends a library’s ability to share information and collections beyond traditional boundaries.

“We are very proud of our recent development,” says Lorrie Pacheco-Butler, Senior Director of Product Strategy for the CARL product line. “With new features such as FRBRization, our customers’ communities will enjoy a superior search and discovery experience. As always, TLC’s discovery platform and its continued 21st century development is included as a core part of our CARLX ILS system. This is what continues to set us apart as a vendor who truly is a partner with a commitment to user experience.”

In addition to completing development for CARLConnect Discovery Version 3.4,TLC is also releasing CARLConnect Staff v1.5.2, CARLX 9.6.2, and CARL APIs v1.9.3.4, to support  CARLConnect Discovery v3.4.
