TLC’s FRBR Catalog Receives Another Platinum Award

TLC’s FRBR Catalog Receives Another Platinum Award

The Library Corporation (TLC) is pleased to receive a platinum distinction for consecutive years for CARLConnect Discovery Grouped Title Display in LibraryWorks’ ninth annual Modern Library Awards (MLAs). The multi-honoree FRBRized online catalog, released in 2018, uses Trusted Records to link titles together for an enhanced search experience.

Grouped Title Display functionality in CARLConnect Discovery displays a single entry for a work instead of numerous entries for each format and edition. Grouping multiple editions and formats of a bibliographic record give library users a clear and trustworthy view of the library collection. CARLSolution customers have been included in the development of Grouped Title Display from its inception, with active feedback reflected in the product.

The MLAs were created to recognize top products and services in the library industry in a truly unbiased format. Products and services were submitted in the fall of 2022, batched into small groups, and sent to the LibraryWorks database of more than 80,000 librarians at public, K-12, academic, and special libraries.

Only customers with experience using CARLConnect Discovery Grouped Title Displays in their libraries were permitted to judge, resulting in a truly unbiased score. Each judge scored CARLConnect Discovery Grouped Title Displays on a numeric basis from 1-10 on a series of questions regarding functionality, value, customer services, etc.

The catalog received an overall score of 9.4, and no score less than 9.0. Based on customer feedback, the following categories received the highest scores:

  • Quality of CARLConnect Discovery Grouped Title Display: 9.5
  • CARLConnect Discovery vs. competitive/similar products: 9.75
  • Satisfaction with TLC, the company providing CARLConnect Discovery: 9.75

One customer shared anonymously, “We are delighted with TLC’s CARLConnect Discovery Grouped Title Display! They are very responsive to their customer’s development wishes. I can see the product only getting better as development continues.”

Jenny Newman, publisher and MLA program manager said, “It’s hardly a surprise that TLC’s online catalog scored so well again this year. Libraries are trending more toward catalogs that highlight the collection in a modern interface.”
