Waukee Public Library System (IA) Launches TLC•Go! Mobile App

The Library Corporation (TLC) is excited to announce that the Waukee Public Library (WPL) is officially live with TLC•Go! — the latest mobile app solution provided by TLC. Those who live in and around Waukee, Iowa, can now access their favorite library services via Android and iOS, thanks to a seamless connection between TLC•Go! and WPL’s integrated library system, LibrarySolution.

The Waukee Public Library circulates over 270,000 titles per year. Integrating TLC•Go! allows community members to access these titles, along with eResources, from the ease and comfort of their homes. Opening an app is easier than using search engines to find the catalog whenever a patron needs to place a hold or connect with their account.

“Having an app has really helped us meet our patrons where they are,” said Laura Hanson, Technical Services Manager for Waukee Public Library. “We have a very tech-savvy community, and the app allows them to connect to us in a more consistent way. We try to be patron-focused in our approach to library service, and the app allows us to do that.”

TLC•Go!’s built-in Click & Collect feature has been notably convenient for WPL curbside services. The dashboard provides an all-in-one spot for simplified staff-side management, while the patron experience is similar to expected commercial apps, such as Target or similar stores. Hanson shared, “Patrons especially like that they no longer have to schedule a pick-up in advance. This fits better into their lives than scheduling in advance like we had to do previously.”

Additionally, the library staff has significant control over the design and content of the app. “We like that TLC•Go! gives us workflows to display suggested titles and items coming soon,” said Hanson. “We love how easy it was to build a winter reading tab to link our winter reading webpage.”

“TLC has been amazing to work with (but truthfully they always are),” said Hanson, following the implementation of the new app. “I felt like every step of the way, we had guidance on what was happening and what was expected or needed of us. Any issues or questions we had were quickly resolved. We also really appreciated how easy the  process was from our end, which is clearly a sign of the preemptive work done on TLC’s part.”

Amber Downs, Project Manager at TLC, returned the sentiment shared by the staff at Waukee Public Library, adding that TLC•Go! provides accessibility on a whole new level. We have resources and the library catalog available whenever it is wanted or needed. The positive impact it has on the community is always significant.”

To see the library app in action, search Waukee Public Library in Google Play or the App Store. For more information on procuring your own mobile library app, please contact TLC at sales@tlcdelivers.com.

TLC Honored with Platinum Award for Library•Solution for Schools

The Library Corporation (TLC) is honored to receive a platinum distinction in LibraryWorks’ ninth annual Modern Library Awards (MLAs) for LibrarySolution for Schools. The integrated library system (ILS), designed for K-12 school libraries, has been optimized with over 20+ years of partner collaboration for daily workflows and transitions between school years.

LibrarySolution for Schools provides complete, seamless integration of its full suite of web-based interfaces: circulation, enriched public access catalog & distinct children’s catalog, cataloging with authority control, advanced inventory management, centralized reports management & scheduling, serial metadata, online acquisitions, digital content integration, eCommerce, SIP integration, and more.

The MLAs were created to recognize top products and services in the library industry in a truly unbiased format. Products and services were submitted in the fall of 2022 by using a simple application and then were posted on a private site with an enhanced description and attendant materials. The submitted products were batched into small groups and sent to the LibraryWorks database of more than 80,000 librarians at public, K-12, academic, and special libraries.

Only customers with experience using LibrarySolution for Schools in their libraries were permitted to judge, resulting in a truly unbiased score. Each judge scored the library management system on a numeric basis from 1-10 on a series of questions regarding functionality, value, customer services, etc.

The ILS scored highest in the following categories:

  • LibrarySolution for Schools vs. competitive/similar products: 9.33
  • Quality of the service delivered by TLC: 9.25

One customer shared anonymously, “We have been with TLC for 21 years, and have migrated to a Hosted Solution with them. Service is impeccable; and I feel extremely confident in their security of our data.”

Jenny Newman, publisher and MLA program manager said, “It’s hardly a surprise that TLC scored so well. LibrarySolution for Schools has been at the forefront of the school library industry since its initial release in 2002.”

Library•Solution v5.7 Revolutionizes Report Writing for Non-Experts

The latest release of LibrarySolution is now available from The Library Corporation (TLC). Version 5.7 introduces a new report authoring framework to streamline complex reports and a comprehensive suite of serial management tools. Early adopters noted the upgrade was straightforward.

Version 5.7 and 5.7.1 continue TLC’s development theme of software designed for operational efficiency. This release package presents anticipated features by customers still using version 4.x and those who have already transitioned to v5.x.

Like the revolutionary cataloging module, the new report authoring no longer requires specialization. Report authors can now write custom report templates from an accessible, drag-and-drop interface. Dashboards enable quick views of lists, pivot tables, and visualizations for specific borrower, item, and activity data.

New serial functionality focuses on streamlining metadata entry and subscription automation. Notifications provide helpful alerts around expected issues on a subscription. The latest comprehensive development included pattern recognition, circulation workflows, PAC display, and full metrics.

“Providing efficient workflows enables our customers to spend less time on the tactical and more time creating customer value,” said Sam Brenizer, Director of Product Management for LibrarySolution. “Streamlined solutions that create value and excite customers are crucial to a vibrant ILS.”

Full release notes are available to customers via LSCommunity. Other highlights include:

  • Improved database performance for ITSMARC Authorities
  • Proactive security development
  • New tag management and improved tagging capabilities
  • New permissions around holding codes, reducing the need for support intervention
  • Improvements to Z39.50 search profiles for OCLC customers
  • Improvements to import functionality.

The latest release of LibrarySolution is available now. Customers who choose to upgrade may submit a ticket to begin scheduling the upgrade process. For a LibrarySolution demo, please contact sales@TLCdelivers.com.

Waco-McLennan County Library Feels Confident Joining TLC Family

Waco-McLennan County Library (WMCL) is thrilled to now use LibrarySolution from The Library Corporation (TLC) as their newest integrated library system. With proactive security practices and an entirely web-based platform, LibrarySolution provides the library with a fully integrated and flexible solution under one umbrella, backed by industry-leading support. TLC completed migration services for the four-site Texas library from their Polaris ILS in September.

“The amount of support that TLC has given us has been fabulous,” shared Essy Day, Director of Library Services at Waco-McLennan County Library. “They respond to and answer our questions in a timely fashion.”

When selecting TLC as its new vendor, WCML valued TLC’s commitment to the end users. The consultative TLC sales team had honest conversations that allowed the library selection team to make informed decisions. That commitment continued through the implementation process, with TLC’s specialists providing authentic and methodical attention to complete the migration.

Before the library’s go-live, Crystal Waldron, Technical Services Supervisor at Waco-McLennan County Library, profoundly shared: “I feel confident and comfortable that everything’s going to turn out right.”

Library staff can continue to feel confident in both the customer service they receive from TLC and the performance of their system. WMCL will use TLC•Cloud Services, the only ILS hosting service underpinned by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and the exclusive winner of the Modern Library Award for Service of the Year 2021. TLC’s proactive approach to application security allows the library to rest assured.

Staff at the library are also looking forward to having complete access to their data with powerful reporting capabilities available in LibrarySolution. Additionally, circulation staff members are delighted with the automatic age-up feature, which was a manual process in their previous ILS.

Waco-McLennan County Library provides access to over 411,000 titles and almost 536,000 items, with 700,000 circulations annually. The community can look forward to the new online catalog. TLC’s support team ensures library staff are comfortable and experienced in making the transition seamless for their patrons. Additionally, the online catalog includes an eCommerce platform that allows borrowers to pay for fines and fees online at any time. This feature was not previously available in the library’s former ILS.

“We are pleased to welcome Waco-McLennan into the TLC family, especially as an addition to our many Texas libraries,” announced Annette Murphy, CEO at TLC. “They can expect excellence from our teams at TLC.”

Jackson-George Regional Library System Returns to TLC

TLC is excited to welcome Jackson-George Regional Library System (JGRLS) back to LibrarySolution. JGRLS had been a customer of TLC since 1990 and used LibrarySolution for 15 years prior to their migration. After a short interim with SirsiDynix, the library was eager to return to TLC’s integrated library system this past August. JGRLS appreciated TLC’s swift returning migration services.

Throughout the implementation, the team expressed great adoration for returning to TLC. “We love TLC,” stated Angie Stewart, Director for Jackson-George Regional Library System. Recounting a recent meeting with her managers, Stewart shared, “Many of them have not used TLC. I told them their life is about to get so much easier.”

Along with ease of use, the library team looks forward to the data-driven analytic capabilities. Stewart remarked, “We remember all the reports we used to run in LibrarySolution. I cannot wait until I can run a report again.”

Headquartered in Pascagoula, Mississippi, the library serves two counties of about 21,800 residents. Its collection includes approximately 180,000 titles and 295,000 items.

During Hurricane Katrina, the library system suffered significant damage. It became apparent that having a hosted solution was an important consideration for the library. TLC will host JGRLS’s integrated library system using the award-winning TLC•Cloud Services.

“Our solutions offer peace of mind for the staff at Jackson-George Regional Library System,” noted Annette Murphy, CEO of The Library Corporation. “We welcome them back to the TLC family and look forward to our renewed partnership for many more years.”

JGRLS’s cloud-hosted catalog can be viewed at jgrls.tlcdelivers.com. For more information on LibrarySolution, contact sales@tlcdelivers.com.

Rochester City School District Selects Library•Solution for Schools

Rochester City School District (RCSD) has selected The Library Corporation (TLC) for its new library software. As an alternative to Follett Destiny, TLC will provide LibrarySolution for Schools to the district. RCSD was able to leverage its membership in the New York State DREAM Consortium to choose TLC as the preferred vendor. The library management system will be live in the school libraries at the end of August 2022.

“One of the key factors in our decision to change from Follett Destiny to TLC LibrarySolution was the vast selection of ready-made reports available to us,” shared Dr. Colleen Sadowski, Director of School Library System & Media Services at Rochester City School District. “In New York, we submit an annual report to the state every year, and TLC has created reports that will make this much easier to provide the data the state requests. If we find we need something different, TLC will build reports specifically for us.”

Dr. Sadowski added, “In speaking with current long-time users of LibrarySolution, they provided only positive feedback on TLC’s customer service and technical support. We are looking forward to working with TLC for years to come.”

Librarians in the district are eager to get students interested in the new library management system. To start promoting it, RCSD created t-shirts using Scout, the mascot for LS2 Kids — TLC’s online catalog for early readers. “My compliments to your designer,” shared Dr. Melissa Frost, School Librarian with RCSD. “It is Scout with the book image that really makes the shirt.”

The age-appropriate catalog options will also include OPAC enrichment via Syndetics Unbound. Librarians will have access to ITSMARC, TLC’s online copy cataloging resource with over 81 million records. The combination of services will allow students to easily search and find their resources quickly.

TLC will host RCSD’s library management system using TLC•Cloud Services. The Oracle-based cloud platform complies with New York Educational Law Section 2-d for student data privacy.

“Our dedication to protecting student data is at the forefront of our development practices,” said Annette Murphy, TLC’s CEO. “Rochester City School District can expect excellence from TLC.”

As an awarded vendor of the DREAM Consortium, TLC will also provide RFID equipment to RCSD through its Tech Logic subsidiary. For more information on TLC’s full suite of library services, contact sales@tlcdelivers.com.
