Chattahoochee Valley Libraries Elevate Patron Experience with Transition to TLC Library•Solution

The Library Corporation (May 6, 2024) — Chattahoochee Valley Libraries (CVL) has successfully transitioned from Polaris to LibrarySolution with The Library Corporation (TLC), marking a significant enhancement to library services and patron experiences across the Chattahoochee Valley region.

After over a decade with its previous vendor, CVL embarked on an exhaustive review of integrated library system (ILS) options to align with evolving needs and budget guidelines. At a competitive price point, TLC’s LibrarySolution emerged as the ideal partner, offering a user-friendly interface tailored to both staff and patron needs following a meticulous evaluation.

“The transition to TLC was seamless and strategic,” said Amber Brookins, Materials and Statistics Coordinator at CVL. “This move not only modernizes our technology but also frees up resources to expand our services and engage our community more effectively.”

CVL’s migration to TLC’s LibrarySolution has introduced several exciting benefits for patrons and staff alike. Notably, the integration of a robust mobile app has simplified access to library services, allowing families to manage multiple barcodes and access auto-generated reports effortlessly. The new catalog interfaces, especially the children’s version (LS2 Kids), have been met with enthusiasm, enhancing the browsing experience for young and emerging readers.

“We are thrilled with the positive impact LibrarySolution has had on our operations,” added Brookins. “Our staff quickly adapted to the streamlined workflows, and our community has embraced the enhanced catalog and mobile functionalities.”

The transition has improved CVL’s operational efficiencies and also enabled the reallocation of resources towards expanding collections and services. Patrons can now enjoy an enriched library experience with access to new catalog features and a more intuitive mobile app.

“We’re excited to enter this new chapter with TLC and LibrarySolution,” concluded Brookins. “The support from TLC’s team has been exceptional, ensuring a smooth transition that benefits our entire community.”

“We are pleased to welcome Chattahoochee Valley Libraries to the TLC family of customers,” said Annette Murphy, CEO and TLC co-founder. “We look forward to supporting the library and its community for many years to come.”

Chattahoochee Valley Libraries is located in Columbus, Georgia, and provides access to over 100,000 titles, with more than 500,000 circulations annually.

TeachingBooks and The Library Corporation Announce New Collaboration

The Library Corporation (January 30, 2024) —  Schools with a mission to enhance student reading success will be pleased with the latest integration announced today between TeachingBooks and The Library Corporation (TLC). The organizations collaborated to provide one-click access to a collection of book-specific resources designed to enrich the reading experience, directly from the school library catalog. Students and teachers using TLC’s LS2 PAC or LS2 Kids catalogs, within LibrarySolution for Schools, can now easily discover and instantly use TeachingBooks’ vast and affordable digital collection of resources that encourage engagement and connection to more than 90,000 books for children and young adults.

Learn more about this integration by visiting TeachingBooks in the ‘Sora by OverDrive’ booth #2040 at the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) in Austin, Texas from February 3-7.

“As a librarian and mom, I can say that TeachingBooks is the perfect companion for learning more about my son’s favorite books and discovering new titles for him to read,” said Ashley Chassé, Product Marketing Manager and a subject matter expert on the integration within TLC’s LibrarySolution. “The time and care they take to create quality resources show just how passionate Nick Glass and his team at TeachingBooks are about kids and reading.”

With this new integration, TLC’s LibrarySolution catalog now automatically populates a “TeachingBooks” button on the left-hand side of title pages, allowing educators to click directly to dozens of resources for each specific book. Resources from TeachingBooks that are now accessible directly from the TLC catalog include video book trailers, read-along audiobook performances, Meet-the-Author introductions and interviews, Multi-Leveled Lessons, discussion and activity guides, and Audio Name Pronunciations of authors sharing how to say their name.

Nick Glass, Founder and Head of TeachingBooks, added, “TLC’s library catalogs for schools have always consistently showcased the beauty of books while making access and inquiry so easy. We are thrilled to build this collaboration to support our mutual school partners and increase access of our dynamic resources directly in their LibrarySolution catalog.”

TLC continues to expand its discovery layer capabilities by bringing another seamless integration to the LibrarySolution user base, one that provides access to a unique toolset which enhances the reading experience,” said Sam Brenizer, Director of Product Management, Schools at TLC. “I’m delighted to deliver this functionality and enable teachers and librarians to connect their students with wonderful resources that make the reading experience more engaging.”

The Library Corporation (January 11, 2024) —  The Library Corporation (TLC) is honored to receive a multiyear platinum distinction in LibraryWorks’ tenth annual Modern Library Awards (MLAs) for LibrarySolution for Schools. TLC is chiefly honored to receive two perfect scores. The schools-focused integrated library system (ILS) stands out not only for its functionality, but also and especially for the unmatched quality of service delivered by TLC.

“We have used LibrarySolution for Schools for 22 years,” shared an anonymous judge. “The quality of service is unmatched. TLC listens to their customers and develops the product based on direct customer feedback.”

LibrarySolution for Schools is standards-aligned enterprise software with industry-leading business intelligence reporting, flexible and secure single sign-on, distinctly modern discovery layer catalogs, and more. The ILS stands out not only for its functionality, but more so for its customer service.

One judge stated, “TLC has always been responsive and a great partner to ensure our libraries continue to be a powerful resource for our students and staff.”

“LibrarySolution has done a wonderful job of supporting our school district at [the] point of need,” submitted another judge. “The staff is committed to helping us, immediately, when we reach out. Not only are the staff at [TLC] responsive, but they take the time to get to know us as a school district. Their individualized service, for us, is unmatched.”

The MLAs were created to recognize top products and services in the library industry. Only customers with experience using the ILS in their libraries were permitted to judge, resulting in a truly unbiased score. Each judge scored the library management system on a numeric basis from 1-10 on a series of questions regarding functionality, value, customer services, etc.

The ILS received an overall score of 9.8 out of 10, scoring highest in the following categories:

  • Quality of the service delivered by TLC: 10 (out of 10)
  • Satisfaction with TLC, the company providing LibrarySolution for Schools: 10 (out of 10)
  • Functionality of LibrarySolution for Schools: 9.75

TLC’s ITS•MARC Cataloging Service Receives Another Platinum Award

The Library Corporation (January 11, 2024) —  The Library Corporation (TLC) is honored to receive another platinum distinction for ITSMARC in LibraryWorks’ tenth annual Modern Library Awards (MLAs). With access to over 82.9 million records, including both bibliographic and authority records, TLC’s online copy cataloging has provided a noteworthy alternative to records provided directly from the book vendor.

TLC is celebrating 50 years of delivering quality solutions to libraries worldwide since introducing a source of MARC records on microfiche in 1974. Since then, TLC has been a leader in metadata, with its cataloging services getting better every year. After partnering with additional library contributors to grow its copy cataloging service in 2022, TLC is honored that this improvement has culminated in a platinum MLA for the second year in a row.

“This product has saved us a lot of time and money,” shared one anonymous judge. “It has saved us staff time for sure but it also has enabled us to stop purchasing MARC records from our book vendors. It is also super easy to use and has a modern interface.”

The MLAs were created to recognize top products and services in the library industry in a truly unbiased format. Products and services were submitted in the fall of 2023 and sent to the LibraryWorks database of more than 80,000 librarians at public, K-12, academic, and special libraries.

Only customers with experience using ITSMARC in their libraries were permitted to judge, resulting in a truly unbiased score. Each judge scored the library management system on a numeric basis from 1-10 on a series of questions regarding functionality, value, customer services, etc.

The resource scored highest in the following categories:

  • Quality of the service delivered by TLC: 9.56
  • Satisfaction with TLC, the company providing ITSMARC: 9.33

ITSMARC is an ILS-agnostic service that draws its records from 23 separate databases, including voluntarily contributed records from public libraries, school libraries, and consortia across the country.

Another anonymous judge shared: “Using ITSMARC has allowed me to get the most descriptive cataloging of new materials added to our library collection. Any time I have needed assistance in the past, TLC has been responsive and quick, always to my satisfaction.”

For more information and to sign up for a 90-day risk-free trial of ITSMARC visit itsmarc.com or contact sales@tlcdelivers.com.

Latest CARL•Solution Release Introduces Much-Anticipated Features

The Library Corporation (TLC) is pleased to announce the latest release of the CARLSolution integrated library system. Based directly on their feedback, customers will enjoy a redesigned interface in CARLConnect Staff, new Holds Management functionality, and the addition of PayPal as an eCommerce option for CARLConnect Discovery Desktop and Mobile. Development also focused on updates to existing functionality and emerging needs and priorities.

Library staff will notice a newly redesigned interface for CARLConnect Staff Items. After gathering feedback from customers about the previous format, TLC developers worked to introduce the intuitive grid view that has become a standard of CARLSolution. The page now allows users with the appropriate permissions the ability to access the “add an item” page with one simple click of a button. Holds counts and statistical information at the bibliographic and item level are available in an easy-to-read view at the top.

“We are building CARLConnect to be a comprehensive solution,” shared Ebony Pacheco-Hoos, Director of Product Management, Publics. “Feedback from our customers is critical as we refactor the web-based experience.”

The release introduces Holds Management functionality into CARLConnect, an adaption from the previously available CARLX windows-based features. The Holds grid allows staff to work with items on the Hold Shelf or In Transit to their branch. Staff can see a large amount of data within the grid, and work directly with specific items. TLC has added the ability to Cancel a Hold or to Clear an Expired hold from this title-level interface, with additional actions planned for future releases. In addition, the Claim Returned functionality can now be accessed in the User Overview Interactions. This permissions-based functionality allows staff to select Claim Returned from the Checkouts tab of User Overview, and select one or more branches to complete the claim.

Accessibility remains a top consideration when features are moved from CARLX to CARLConnect. “As we develop, we evaluate WCAG-friendly design on all of our new pages, and re-evaluate on any pages that we update,” stated Jessica Seybold, CARLSolution Product Owner and UX designer.

This release unrolls PayPal as an additional eCommerce option for CARLConnect Discovery Desktop and Mobile. PayPal implementation offers users a PayPal button directly from the My Account Fines page. Since eCommerce remains a local configuration-based setting, libraries can choose one eCommerce option per configuration; it is possible to use a combination of multiple eCommerce options such as PayPal and Authorize.Net within a library system, on a configuration basis.

Other features in this release further support TLC’s security-first design principles, providing a secure client connection without the need for a VPN tunnel. Development also included updated server thread handling which will improve behind-the-scenes processes for SIP2, authority changes, and global updates. Additionally, the Google Analytics integration was updated to reference the latest code.

The latest release of CARLSolution includes CARLX version 9.7.3, CARLConnect Staff version 1.6.9, CARLConnect Discovery version 3.6.7, and CARLAPIs version 2.0.3.

To see CARLSolution for yourself, please contact us at sales@TLCdelivers.com.

Pickens County Library System Makes the Switch to TLC

Pickens County Library System (PCLS) now has better reporting, collection curation, and staff operations after switching to the LibrarySolution integrated library system (ILS) from The Library Corporation (TLC). Over the summer, TLC completed migration services for the four-site South Carolina library system from the SirsiDynix Horizon ILS.

“We chose TLC for ease of use and better/easier access to reports,” shared Jennifer Bryan, Public Relations/Media Specialist for PCLS. “We are also looking forward to being more efficient in our day-to-day operations.”

When selecting TLC as its new vendor, PCLS was very impressed with the reporting capabilities offered in LibrarySolution. Bryan remarked that while patrons might not immediately notice changes to the ILS, “behind-the-scenes processes will be improved resulting in a better library experience. For instance, expanded access to reporting will allow for more finite details to be considered in collection development decisions, resulting in a better-curated collection for the community.”

The migration from their previous vendor to TLC went smoothly, with Bryan commenting, “The best part of the process has been the training and support that TLC staff have provided. They have walked us through every step and been available for questions. Their trainer spent three days on-site with us during the launch to train staff and help answer questions.” As a result, the library feels confident and pleased that they made the switch to TLC.

“We are thrilled to welcome Pickens County Library System to the TLC family,” said Annette Murphy, TLC CEO. “The library will surely benefit from our extensive reporting power and data analytics.”

Pickens County Library System is located along the northern border of South Carolina and provides access to over 234,000 titles, with more than 700,000 circulations annually.

Logan Library Finds Seamless Connections with TLC

Logan Library is now using LibrarySolution as its integrated library system (ILS) and TLC•Go! for its mobile app from The Library Corporation (TLC). TLC completed the migration services from the SirsiDynix ILS for the high-circulating single-site library earlier this year. The library is looking forward to taking advantage of the seamless connection between the ILS and mobile app.

Located in Logan, Utah, the library serves about 55,000 residents with approximately 113,000 titles. It has been operating at a temporary location while waiting for construction to be completed on a new 35,000-square-foot building. Historical circulation has been around 700,000 per year, prior to the pandemic and construction. The staff and community can now look forward to a building, ILS, and mobile app that can handle the amount of potentially enormous traffic the library receives.

Unhappy with the experience with their previous ILS, library staff began searching for a new system. Karen Clark, Director of Logan Library, explained, “Our main reason for choosing TLC is we wanted a vendor that was more responsive to our questions.” TLC provides industry-leading support services across all products at all stages.

The library also hoped to improve in other areas, as Clark continued, “We wanted a better OPAC experience for our patrons, we wanted an app for our patrons, and we were ready to make some changes. We needed to find a system that fit our budget better and was a better fit for our patrons and staff.”

Library staff appreciated the attention provided during the migration to LibrarySolution. Clark shared, “I was pleased with how smoothly most of it went and how we were able to solve problems quickly. The team was so responsive to our questions and concerns.” Clark’s comments mirror those of countless customers who value the TLC’s commitment to ensuring library staff are comfortable and experienced in making the transition smooth for their patrons.

Once the ILS was in place, the library began the process of implementing TLC•Go!, the feature-rich mobile app available via Android and iOS. TLC•Go! allows patrons to manage their library account, place holds, renew items, and access library resources – all at their fingertips. The library appreciated the seamless compatibility between LibrarySolution and TLC•Go! and knows that the new products have already enriched the library experience for the community. Debbie Ogilvie, Librarian at Logan Library, said, “Overall it’s been a very positive move. I love seeing patrons use the app when I’m out in town, not at work.”

“Libraries often seek us out after hearing about our stellar reputation for customer support and seamless connections,” said Annette Murphy, CEO at TLC. “TLC libraries stay with us for many years for our commitment to high-quality service.” Staff and patrons alike appreciate the power and usability of TLC products, which is especially helpful at high-circulating locations. TLC strives to make the process of finding and checking out materials more effective and enjoyable for all.

View the library’s enriched and cloud-hosted catalog at loganutah.tlcdelivers.com. To see the library app in action, search Logan Library in Google Play or the App Store. For more information on how your library can switch to LibrarySolution or how to procure your own mobile library app, please contact TLC at sales@tlcdelivers.com.
