TLC Partners with ALA to Unite Against Book Bans

The Library Corporation (TLC) is pleased to partner with the American Library Association to Unite Against Book Bans, a national grassroots campaign to engage the public in the fight against censorship. This non-partisan campaign leverages the reach of national organizations representing librarians, educators, parents, authors, publishers, distributors, champions for civil liberties, civil rights, and equality, and more.

When we unite, we are stronger.

Research shows that a large majority of Americans across the political spectrum oppose book bans, yet efforts to remove books continue at an unprecedented pace. Unite Against Book Bans will engage and empower individuals and organizations to combat those efforts.

TLC invites you to raise your voice for the right to read:

  • Join thousands of others and sign up to Unite Against Book Bans.
  • Spread the word on social media and be sure to tag @TLCdelivers with the hashtag #UniteAgainstBookBans.
  • Organize in your community, reach out to elected officials and local press, and find out where candidates stand on this important issue.

Together, we will defeat censorship.

Additional information is available at uniteagainstbookbans.com.

Jackson-George Regional Library System Returns to TLC

TLC is excited to welcome Jackson-George Regional Library System (JGRLS) back to LibrarySolution. JGRLS had been a customer of TLC since 1990 and used LibrarySolution for 15 years prior to their migration. After a short interim with SirsiDynix, the library was eager to return to TLC’s integrated library system this past August. JGRLS appreciated TLC’s swift returning migration services.

Throughout the implementation, the team expressed great adoration for returning to TLC. “We love TLC,” stated Angie Stewart, Director for Jackson-George Regional Library System. Recounting a recent meeting with her managers, Stewart shared, “Many of them have not used TLC. I told them their life is about to get so much easier.”

Along with ease of use, the library team looks forward to the data-driven analytic capabilities. Stewart remarked, “We remember all the reports we used to run in LibrarySolution. I cannot wait until I can run a report again.”

Headquartered in Pascagoula, Mississippi, the library serves two counties of about 21,800 residents. Its collection includes approximately 180,000 titles and 295,000 items.

During Hurricane Katrina, the library system suffered significant damage. It became apparent that having a hosted solution was an important consideration for the library. TLC will host JGRLS’s integrated library system using the award-winning TLC•Cloud Services.

“Our solutions offer peace of mind for the staff at Jackson-George Regional Library System,” noted Annette Murphy, CEO of The Library Corporation. “We welcome them back to the TLC family and look forward to our renewed partnership for many more years.”

JGRLS’s cloud-hosted catalog can be viewed at jgrls.tlcdelivers.com. For more information on LibrarySolution, contact sales@tlcdelivers.com.

Rochester City School District Selects Library•Solution for Schools

Rochester City School District (RCSD) has selected The Library Corporation (TLC) for its new library software. As an alternative to Follett Destiny, TLC will provide LibrarySolution for Schools to the district. RCSD was able to leverage its membership in the New York State DREAM Consortium to choose TLC as the preferred vendor. The library management system will be live in the school libraries at the end of August 2022.

“One of the key factors in our decision to change from Follett Destiny to TLC LibrarySolution was the vast selection of ready-made reports available to us,” shared Dr. Colleen Sadowski, Director of School Library System & Media Services at Rochester City School District. “In New York, we submit an annual report to the state every year, and TLC has created reports that will make this much easier to provide the data the state requests. If we find we need something different, TLC will build reports specifically for us.”

Dr. Sadowski added, “In speaking with current long-time users of LibrarySolution, they provided only positive feedback on TLC’s customer service and technical support. We are looking forward to working with TLC for years to come.”

Librarians in the district are eager to get students interested in the new library management system. To start promoting it, RCSD created t-shirts using Scout, the mascot for LS2 Kids — TLC’s online catalog for early readers. “My compliments to your designer,” shared Dr. Melissa Frost, School Librarian with RCSD. “It is Scout with the book image that really makes the shirt.”

The age-appropriate catalog options will also include OPAC enrichment via Syndetics Unbound. Librarians will have access to ITSMARC, TLC’s online copy cataloging resource with over 81 million records. The combination of services will allow students to easily search and find their resources quickly.

TLC will host RCSD’s library management system using TLC•Cloud Services. The Oracle-based cloud platform complies with New York Educational Law Section 2-d for student data privacy.

“Our dedication to protecting student data is at the forefront of our development practices,” said Annette Murphy, TLC’s CEO. “Rochester City School District can expect excellence from TLC.”

As an awarded vendor of the DREAM Consortium, TLC will also provide RFID equipment to RCSD through its Tech Logic subsidiary. For more information on TLC’s full suite of library services, contact sales@tlcdelivers.com.

TLC Provides Back-to-School Support for its K-12 District Libraries

While school librarians prepare for students to return, TLC helps with a seamless transition. The library software company provides a team within its Client Services division devoted to school success. Some of the larger districts have their own dedicated representative for year-round support.

TLC will support the Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE) with back-to-school software training. Mike Sweeney — HIDOE’s TLC support representative — will be on-site during the 2022 Hawaii School Library Conference. August 1st is an all-day training of LS2 basics. August 2nd is an LS2 refresher plus instruction on LS2 Cataloging.

Likewise, librarians at Chicago Public Schools (CPS) will train with Joe Horning, TLC’s on-site support representative. TLC will provide a refresher on August 2nd and 11th for existing CPS library staff. Training for new hires will take place on August 18th.

In addition to the training opportunities that take place for many K-12 districts, TLC provides a checklist of summer tasks. From a list of recommended year-end reports to updating SIS connections, the list includes helpful tasks to start the school year. TLC’s Client Services team can help schools with any of this summer work.

The summer is also ideal for districts to complete projects with district-wide impact. For instance, Anchorage School District worked with TLC this summer to complete their migration to TLC•Cloud Services. Other schools used the opportunity to upgrade to the latest TLC software.

With a dedicated team year-round and extra attention during back-to-school, TLC supports schools. “Especially at a time when librarians and media specialists have many added responsibilities,” stated Annette Murphy, TLC’s CEO. “We want our schools to know that TLC is here for you.”

Warren County Library (WCL) is now live with TLC•Go! — the latest mobile app solution provided by TLC. Residents of Warren County, New Jersey, are now able to access library resources via Android and iOS. WCL borrowers can also check out materials directly from their smartphones. TLC•Go! has seamless compatibility with the library’s LibrarySolution integrated library system.

Warren County Library serves a community of more than 100,000 residents across four branch locations. With TLC•Go!, the WCL community can access the library catalog and view library news from anywhere. Library staff can customize the app from the Content Management System.

Customizable settings allow users to change the language, layout, brightness, and notifications. Native accessibility features also impact the app display for equitable access.

Ponca City Library (OK) Now Using Library•Solution

Ponca City Library is now using LibrarySolution as its integrated library system (ILS) from The Library Corporation (TLC). TLC completed the migration services from the Book Systems ILS for the single-site library. Before its year with Book Systems, the library had used Polaris software for many years. This Oklahoma library is also the first new TLC customer to launch TLC•Go! simultaneously, following its release late last year.

Staff at the library look forward to the benefits of the new integrated library system. “The move to TLC will bring a new online catalog, including a specially curated Kids Catalog,” shared Marcia Hull, Technical Services Librarian at Ponca City Library. LS2 Kids is designed for a library’s youngest audience, with an app-like interface for age-appropriate library browsing.

“There will also be a new app, which is available now,” continued Hull. With TLC•Go!, the Ponca City community can access the library catalog and view library news from anywhere. Staff at the library can customize the app from its Content Management System.

Library staff at Ponca City Library appreciate the online acquisitions model offered by TLC. This database of leading library vendors provides support for selection, ordering, and receiving. Integration with the catalog helps determine if titles are already owned by the library.

Families in the community will value new functionality for linked accounts across a single household. Each family member maintains their own barcode and loan policies. However, borrower information can link to a responsible party (parent/guardian) for seamless hold pick-up.

TLC CEO, Annette Murphy, welcomed the library to the TLC family: “We are pleased to offer outstanding and unparalleled support to our newest Oklahoma library, Ponca City Library. They can expect the same level of service we provide to all our valued library partners.”

Located roughly 100 miles north of Oklahoma City, Ponca City is home to approximately 24,000 residents. TLC will host the library’s 71,000 titles with TLC•Cloud Services, underpinned by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

View the library’s enriched and cloud-hosted catalog at poncacity.tlcdelivers.com. To see the library app in action, search “Ponca City Library” in Google Play or the App Store. For more information on LibrarySolution, TLC•Go!, and TLC•Cloud Services, contact sales@tlcdelivers.com.

Bedford Public Library System (VA) Launches TLC•Go! Mobile App

The Library Corporation (TLC) is delighted to announce that Bedford Public Library System (BPLS) is now live with TLC•Go! — the latest mobile app solution provided by TLC. BPLS is able to offer library services via Android and iOS to its community in and around Bedford, Virginia. TLC•Go! provides a seamless connection to BPLS’s integrated library system, LibrarySolution.

“We’re also excited that it allows us to link to many of our other services,” she added. “Patrons aren’t downloading a ‘one use’ application to their devices. The app connects to our e-book providers, event calendar, research databases, and more — right at their fingertips!”

“Creating more access to the library and the resources available is what it’s all about,” shared Annie Kirkland, Special Projects Manager at TLC. “TLC•Go! makes it possible to search the library catalog and access other resources, all from one place, allowing TLC libraries to meet their users at the point of need.”
